The Japanese Film Festival is Ireland’s only truly national film festival, and currently takes place every year in April.
A collaboration between the Embassy of Japan and access>CINEMA, the aim of the festival is to bring a diverse and eclectic programme of Japanese cinema to Irish audiences.
The Festival has grown from its beginnings in 2008 when 4 films screened in 3 locations to an event in 2024 that encompassed almost 50 screenings of 19 films across 11 venues in 9 locations nationally.
In 2024 the Festival programme features work of the most acclaimed filmmakers from contemporary Japanese cinema, and covers a variety of themes, genres and topics.
The 2024 Festival will present screenings in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Dundalk, Sligo, Wexford and Bray.
